The RCS DevChallenge

The competition will offer awards in three categories: the Best Mobile RCS Client; Best PC Client and the Best RCS Innovation. Clients can be developed on any platform: Symbian, J2ME, WAC, Windows Mobile, Android, Apple, PC or others.

All entries will be judged live at the RCS DevChallenge Meet* by a panel of judges representing leading operator and equipment vendors and chaired by the GSMA’s Chief Technology & Strategy Officer, Alex Sinclair. The Meet will be held at the GSMA’s London Headquarters on Thursday and Friday 9th and 10th December. A shortlist in each category will be decided and announced by the judges at the end of the Meet. The category winners will be announced at the Mobile World Congress 2011.

Entries are welcome for any of the categories from as wide an audience of companies and individuals as possible. Typical companies and organisations who might consider entry would include, but are not limited to, Client Developers - Mobile Client Developers and Usability Experts - Individual Technologists - University Technology Departments - Mobile or Fixed Operator Product Development Departments - Social Networking Experts – Web Application Developers - Service Designers - Social or Anthropological Scientists or Messaging Experts.

Judging for the Best RCS Client awards will be based on assessments of the entry’s usability, design and the degree of coverage of RCS specifications.

Entries for the Best RCS Innovation can be submitted as “mash-ups” including RCS & other services or can be demonstrated (live or as a simulation) of a highly innovative use of APIs or an innovative extension to RCS.

Category 1: Best RCS Mobile Client

The ‘Best RCS Mobile Client’ award recognises the most appealing and stimulating RCS mobile client as decided by the RCS DevChallenge panel of judges. The assessment of the judges will focus on usability, design, attractiveness and the breadth of conformance to RCS specifications.

Category 2: Best RCS PC Client

The ‘Best RCS PC Client’ award recognises the most appealing and stimulating RCS PC client as decided by the RCS DevChallenge panel of judges. The assessment of the judges will focus on usability, design, attractiveness and the breadth of conformance to RCS specifications.

Category 3: Best RCS innovation

The ‘Best RCS Innovation’ award recognises the most innovative, compelling and creative idea for an innovative extension to RCS that will drive interest in and use of RCS services by global consumers, as decided by the RCS DevChallenge panel of judges. The idea could be demonstrated by a ‘mash-up’ of RCS using APIs and one or more additional services as determined by the entrant – shown either live or by simulation.

*Please note, all costs and expenses associated with attendance at the Meet must be borne solely by the entrant. Refreshments will be provided for contestants during both days of the Meet.
