The RCS DevChallenge 2009

Mobile and PC client developers and technology innovators responded positively to the GSMA’s inaugural RCS DevChallenge contest – 29 companies accepted the contest challenge and presented at the invitation-only, live judging event hosted by Telefónica in Madrid, January 27th and 28th, 2010. The winners were announced at the GSMA’s 2010 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Contest entrants demonstrated their new ideas to deliver the most useable and attractive RCS client that can be embedded in a device or used on PCs and demonstrated new and innovative ideas for future RCS services.

The 2009 GSMA competition was the opportunity for entrants to excel in front of an audience of the world’s leading operators and telecommunication companies. Sponsors for 2009 were Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks, Orange and Telefónica. Companies who entered the competition had a unique opportunity to showcase their products or ideas that could take the industry’s most exciting and significant new telecommunication service platform – the GSMA’s Rich Communication Suite (RCS) – to its next level of customer attraction.

The 2009 RCS DevChallenge had award categories for:

  • Best RCS Mobile Client
  • Best RCS PC Client
  • Best RCS Innovation

Why enter the RCS DevChallenge?

Visibility, status and possible commercialisation – the RCS DevChallenge is an opportunity to achieve the highest industry status and win exposure of its ideas to the world’s leading operators and telecommunication equipment vendors.

Quite simply, RCS is recognised as one of the most significant opportunities for operators to grow their business in a market of more than 4 billion users. The RCS DevChallenge can help companies to fast-track new product ideas to the key influencers and expose them at the world’s largest telecommunication event – the GSMA’s Mobile World Congress – an event that attracted over 49,000 attendees in 2010.
