RCS DevChallenge 2011
Highlights and Winners Announced for the 2011 RCS DevChallenge
Following the successful response from client developers and innovators to the inaugural RCS DevChallenge initiated last year, the GSMA is inviting entries that demonstrate yet more attractive and innovative RCS clients and services for consideration in the RCS DevChallenge 2011.
The challenge aims to stimulate client developers to deliver the most useable and attractive RCS client that can be embedded in a device or used on PCs. For innovators, the challenge is designed to encourage them to demonstrate new and innovative ideas for future RCS services. Sponsors already announced for this year’s GSMA competition include Alcatel-Lucent, Huawei, Nokia Siemens Networks, Orange
and Telefónica.
Entering the DevChallenge gives developers the opportunity to excel in front of an audience of the world’s leading operators and telecommunication companies. Entering the competition will give you a unique opportunity to showcase your product or ideas that could take the industry’s most exciting and significant new telecommunication service platform – the GSMA’s Rich Communication Suite (RCS) – to its next level of customer attraction. The RCS DevChallenge 2011 will make awards in the following categories:
- Best RCS Mobile Client
- Best RCS PC Client
- Best RCS innovation
Judging for the Best RCS Client awards will be based on assessments of the entry’s usability, design and the degree of coverage of RCS specifications.
Entries for the Best RCS Innovation can be submitted as “mash-ups” including RCS & other services or can be demonstrated live or as a simulation of a highly innovative use of APIs or an innovative extension to RCS.
Rich Communication Suite - RCS
The world of social and business communicators involves talking, texting and sharing experiences – from mobiles, laptops and PCs. Mobile services, internet social networking and multimedia messaging co-exist across platforms allowing users to communicate together faster and more fully than ever before. RCS unlocks the community in a user’s address book, delivering feature-packed communications started from a single place – the enhanced RCS address book. Talking, texting, sharing videos and pictures happens at the click of a button. And the address book is visible whether the user is accessing from a mobile or a PC. No log in. No password. This means users have everything they need to know captured at that one point.
More information about RCS and a detailed view of the specifications is available on the GSMA’s RCS website.
Why enter the RCS DevChallenge?
Visibility, status and possible commercialisation – the RCS DevChallenge is your opportunity to achieve the highest industry status and win exposure of your ideas to the world’s leading operators and telecommunication equipment vendors.
Quite simply, RCS is recognised as one of the most significant opportunities for operators to grow their business – in a market that serves over 5 billion users. The RCS DevChallenge is your chance to fast-track your new product ideas to the key influencers, culminating with a public showcase at the world’s largest telecommunication event – the Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, 2011 – an event that regularly attracts around 50,000 visitors.
The category winners will be able to leverage their success in advertising and promotion – participating as a category winner at the GSMA’s Mobile World Congress DevChallenge Showcase at this highly visible and significant industry event. In addition to the unique award plaque, the winning client application (for mobile and PC) will be actively evaluated by the sponsoring Operators and RCS Vendors for commercial use.
